Message from AfSBT Quality Manager
Africa Society for Blood Transfusion has a significant number of quality documents. The Society has been in existence for over twenty years and documentation has been generated by various persons over this time. A programme is underway to update, standardise and streamline all previously written documents. These documents include AfSBT Policies, SOPs, Reference Documents and forms and amount to over 200 in total. Branding of all documents with the new AfSBT logo will form part of this process. AfSBT is working towards applying for accreditation by the International Society for Quality (ISQua) and for this all documentation needs to be in good order. ISQua is an international body that accredits accrediting agencies in the healthcare sector, like AfSBT and AABB.

Workshop and Benchmarking tour for Tanzanian Ministry of Health and NBTS in Kigali
AfSBT organized a 5-day Workshop and Benchmarking tour for Tanzanian Ministry of Health and NBTS in Kigali, Rwanda from 8 to 12 January 2018. The ultimate objective of this workshop was to observe how Rwanda NBTS operate as an entity within the National Health System and what are the key factors that enabled Rwanda NBTS attain Step 3 Accreditation under the AfSBT Step-Wise Accreditation Programme (SWAP).“The goal of the workshop was to share experience and build capacity of senior management team of Tanzania NBTS to enable them to achieve full accreditation of blood transfusion services in Tanzania” explained Dr. Magdalena Lyimo, Programme Manager, Tanzania NBTS.

New AfSBT Membership Benefits and General Information
General Information on Memberships

The year of membership runs according to calendar year. Fees paid during the year apply only to that year of payment.
Fees, that are relevant during the year of an AfSBT congress, remain the same for the following year, so that individual members are able to pay for two years whilst at the congress.
Membership fees must be paid in full and bank charges borne by the member.
Lapsed members do not enjoy the benefits applicable to members in good standing. However, lapsed members, who pay their annual fee, are reinstated without the need for back payments to cover years during which their status was lapsed.Read More….

AfSBT Honorary Member: Call for Nominations
AfSBT Honorary Member is awarded to acknowledge and recognize a person who has delivered significant and distinguished services to AfSBT or to the general field of blood transfusion and related disciplines in Africa or beyond.
Nominations for persons to be bestowed the title of “Honorary Member” is now open, any AfSBT Member may nominate candidates by sending a written notice to AfSBT. The AfSBT Board shall consider all such nominations and may appoint any such nominee as an Honorary Member of AfSBT. The AfSBT President shall grant the award to the Honorary Member at the 9th AfSBT International Congress in Arusha during the Tanzanite Dinner Event.
Nominations for AfSBT Honorary Member shall be submitted by sending an email to info@afsbt.org Nominations should be accompanied by a written referee report. Referees should not be nominators, and the referee should be an AfSBT Member. The reference report should indicate the achievements done by the nominee in the field of blood transfusion and shall include evidence to support the nominee’s long and distinguished service to AfSBT or to the general field of blood transfusion. The closing date for submission of nominations is 1 April 2018. Don’t delay!
